Getting Outside After a Stroke or Brain Injury

After a stroke or brain injury it can be challenging to get outside and do the outdoor recreation activities you used to do. Here in Chicago and the surrounding area we have many resources to help you get outside and have fun. Here are a few of our favorite organizations:

  • Judd Goldman Adaptive Sailing Foundation:  Provides classroom and on-water sailing instruction for people with disabilities. This program has many advanced equipment and safety options that allow people of all abilities to participate in sailing.
  • Adaptive Adventures: Supports athletes in a number of sports including adaptive skiing, cycling, kayaking, and climbing.
  • Adaptive Climbing Group: A community for people with disabilities to have opportunities to inclusively participate in the sport of climbing.
  • Great Lakes Adaptive Sports Association (GLASA): Supports youth and adults who have a physical or visual disability in the participation of recreation, fitness, and sports. GLASA has a large array of activities to participate in, everything from horseback riding, to boccia, to archery.
